The Singing Leaf

That song you heard in a leaf when you were a child, still sings today

When I was young every leaf had a name every wind had a purpose
then I grew old and I forgot how to listen with my heart ;
I walked away from innocence and ran towards the scheme of things
trading in my purity for impaired thoughts and acts;
But then my hair turned gray and my hands began to slow
even my legs were not as quick as they once used to be;
So I walked through the garden searching out
the same leaf and found out she still sang the hymn
of morning, yes she still sang with youthful grace;
Cool caressed by aging years I suddenly realized,
it wasn't the leaf that changed its tune, it was me.

For sure, the vicissitude of spirit. Fortunately we are never too old to change. Unfortunately, the change can always go in either direction. Great, thoughtful write. Enjoyed the read very much.

The opening line and the ending line serve as wonderful bookends to these insightful thoughts. Hold on to the song in your heart, Vienna. Lovely poem.

It's easy to forget the simplistic sway and gracefulness of youth, yet reminiscing, teaches us to remind ourselves of the time nuggets of wisdom were sown, which we now again seek. Beautiful, Mystic Rose Rose!...ab
