The Simple Life

I miss the sweet, long-ago simple days most lives contented, not hungry for more A path we walked with gentle, simple ways It was the way of life in days of Yore. No TV back then in small towns like ours Instead, hours spent rapt by the radio 'The Shadow,” and 'Soaps' listening for hours Jack Benny and Red we all grew to know. But those days vanished, like an ocean breeze Now we read our phones for all the canned news Flip twenty channels to find one to please Between then and now, the simple I'd choose I dream of a house on a mountaintop Growing my own veggies, and then sharing Plenty of sunshine and rain for each crop And neighbors all simply warm and caring. Sounds more appealing than the technology filled world we are in now a lot of the time. Well done and good luck to you :)

The simple life ... the Godly life. I liked the ending line, "And neighbors all simply warm and caring." May not be possible this side of heaven but I'd live anywhere with that kind of neighbors. Lovely uplifting poetry, Ann. Thanks for sharing, A poet friend in Texas, Bill

My neighbors are caring, so I'm lucky. I know some who don't even know their neighbors' names. A sad world we've become.

Exactly... except please just do it. No need to dream. (I, for example, don't have a smartphone and lead a very calm life. If I were not partially disabled, I'd move out to the country myself to my little patch of petunias!).

Oops, I've waited too long, Gershon. Too old to climb mountaintops. :)
