POTD 6 Mar 2020
Oh, where are those waves of bygone days that caressed and rocked on hearing you cry? ‘Sleep little ship’ I'd murmur low while ocean crooned her soft lullaby Turbulent change wrought by tempestuous winds Fresh cravings to taste the salted breeze In foam and spray twixt the now lashing waves Illusions waft to tempt and tease Resounding thunder heralds a storm Streaks of lightning split the skies Your torch burning bright to take the helm for selfish reasons my love denies Indecisions vacillate crucial visions cavernous chasms far withdrawn The deeper I think the lower I sink The wind howls forth a cry forlorn No delusion with love ~ high the price In this icy realm my resistance will take a solicitous change of a Mother’s heart Look not the shattered glass in your wake
The impulses of the over protective mother and keeping her child sheltered in a bubble away from the real world is just not feasible anymore. The ‘Breaking Point’ is, when she must weigh up her own feelings - either relinquishing her relationship with her offspring by forcing it to stay, or breaking her heart if she lets it go.
Ultimately, as in the ‘Story of Life’…. Love conquers all.
~Happy International Women's Day to those celebrating on Sunday 8th ~

When I was a little girl, someone gifted my mom a bottle that had a ship in it. It confused the heck outta me how it got in there. I would so tenderly touched it and wondered if God punished the captain and shoved him and his ship in the bottle... Lol! Anyways, this so thoughtful and inspiring. A mother’s love is unconditional she’d do anything for her baby! As always, magnificent poem. I loved it :)

Beautiful poem of genetically yielding to the firmament forces of replicated liberty, Maria. May love light the path of your sabbatical journey. Long may you live and prosper. Love and more love always.

This is gorgeous, Maria ... I was a single dad, and while I can never know the innate connection a mother has to her birthed ones, (a connection that goes far beyond words, I imagine), I can relate to this lovely poem, and the urge to shelter your wee ones. There comes a point when we have to let go and let them soar, watch them stumble, help them up (if we can), and how torturous that period is! Mine are all in their 30's now, but my eyes moisten whenever I watch them drive away. Superb write!

Such a poignant and true-to-life poem, Maria. It is hard to let the little 'birds' flee the nest but we must do it with pride and love not selfishness and weakness. To be a good mother a woman has to be strong. A belated congratulations on POTD too. FAVED! P.S. And, I love the song...perfect choice!

This is metaphorically striking, Maria. Like any other loving mother you have fears and doubts with regards to children. You want the best, while doing your utmost to protect...something that comes naturally. Yet, deep down, there is the knowledge that eventually birds will leave the nest and learn to fly on their own. // Belated congrats on p.o.t.d. ~ Warm regards // paul

Dear Maria, I read your poem and I read your explanation. My interpretation is completely different; first, I loved it, second, it shows " Our lives" we are all in a bottle or in a cage and we're all asleep, and as you said the world creates a salted breeze. "The deeper I think the lower I sink". Magnificent... it's the story of my life.

My dear, sweet, Maria, your soulful artistry knows no bounds and never ceases to astound me! A heartfelt poem baring a vulnerability, baring the heart and soul of a loving mother. Your extraordinary imagery and amazing phrasing; 'The deeper I think the lower I sink' (so true of a mother's worry) combine to make this poem a metaphoric beauty. Belated congratulations on your very worthy honor of POTD, dear poetess. Warmest wishes always, my dear friend and sister.. ~Susan

Maria, a very honest and vulnerable write. Letting go can be so hard. Love the maritime imagery - so appropriate for the storms of life we weather as parents and offspring. Well done, congrats on POTD ~ John

A ship is safe in a bottle, but it does not belong there... A philosophical way to look at it through an amazing poem... It is international women's Day on 8 March so this is fitting for that. Also congrats on POTD.
