The Self and the Heart

Oh, my heart,
You and I have been through many stormy, as well as, 
Many peaceful days during our trip through life.

Sometimes,
We have laughed and we have cried so loudly that we were heard far 
Into the future, 
But
We have learned that both sorrow and joy are interconnected and that 
One feeling cannot exist without the presence of the other. 
Moreover, 
We realized that the intensity of the feelings produced in both cases,
Depends on the intensity of the feeling caused by its opposite:
The more we suffer, the more we are able to feel joy and the greater  
The joy we feel, the greater the pain that would follow. 

Now, after so many decades of confrontations on the path of existence, 
You and I have become friends.  
I do not try to control you anymore and you do not have many 
Reasons to provoke me with your capricious demands,
Thus 
It is wise that a truce we have, finally, declared. A truce, that can help 
Both of us, my friend, cross in peace the threshold of eternity!
