The Sea

THE SEA ======= I stood at the shore and tried to see the end, I knew it was of no use and no one ever saw it, Like the sea our life's end is unseen, Waves go up and down uncontrollably, so our lives face ups & downs beyond control. I stood on the beach and watched the moonlit sea, Oh! it is great to watch the calm waves sway, What a peaceful atmosphere it creates, When a man is calm and collected, peace engulfs, Happiness surrounds, great experience found. I left the beach thinking of the wonders of creation, Why the waves turn to tsunami and volcano, People are like sea, calm today, in turmoil tomorrow, No one can predict the volcano eruption and tsunami, How similar is the actions of man and the sea!!! Poet shows balance with his writing skill. The poem itself depicts times in life when balance is interrupted. The time when control becomes uncontrollable.

Gunadevi, I really, really like this poem. Very insightful and creative. The theme, people are like the sea, is a well-developed theme here.

What a coincidence. Both your first poem and mine were called The Sea. I only write for fun. You have many years of reading behind you in the library, I am sure. I seldom read and cannot spell well. I love this poem.

Yes, it is a coincidence. I am not a great reader even after being a librarian for nearly 25 years. I started writing poems only after my retirement. I like to read poems. Thanks Jean. All the best. Gunadevi
