The Sad Things About Being A Good Person

A heart full of kindness, a soul so bright, Yet often taken advantage of, day and night. You give and you give, till you're drained dry, But few reciprocate, and fewer ask why. You see the best in everyone you meet, But they may not see the good in you, so sweet. You forgive and forget, with a gracious heart, But the pain lingers, a constant, nagging part. You're always there for others, through thick and thin, But when you need them, they're nowhere to be found within. Your empathy runs deep, your compassion true, But sometimes it feels like it's all anew. You're vulnerable, open, and honest too, But others may misuse your trust, and hurt you anew. You wish for fairness, for justice to reign, But life's not always fair, and pain remains. Still, you hold on to hope, to love and light, For being good is who you are, day and night. Keep shining, dear heart, don't lose your way, For your goodness makes a difference, every single day.
