The Rocking Chair

When a child with mood tuned to channel pout,
I cherished how you chose to repose me.
You chair-rocked soothing beats with arms about
me, your small lap-wrap, and lulled me gloom free.
Your gentle love nurtured my self-image.

Grown, I still feel Grannie-pats on my back
that once love filled me in your rocking chair.
Time’s chase cannot displace our love with lack
for still I rock in your love’s sure graced flair.
Decades death laid swayed not your dear visage.

This one resonates with me, CayCay. When I was a little guy my grandma (we called her “Momo”) would rock me when we’d visit her once a year in Macon, GA. I wish I could have seen more of her. She died in 1977. Coincidentally, her maiden name was “Visage,” which is the last word of your poem. How about that! This one is a Fav! ~Mark

Dear Heart loves a good SAD one and this is poignant, so poignant, dear Caycay. I never had this kind of grandma , nor do I really remember my mom rocking me this way . But I am so thankful that she loved me and read to me. soupmail.

So lovely and soothing. I saw my grandma only a couple times a year. I love having my grandchildren in my arms and yes they are always welcome to sit in my chair. It’s their mischievous smile yet mine too as I know they feel my love while sitting there. :) A smile now on my heart.

4 are here. Two are a plane trip away. They remain in my thoughts held close until each visit where I can foster the love more substantially! Visiting them soon! Love all the grands! Thank God for them all!

As an Army brat, my family frequently moved but every summer we drove to Macon, Georgia where both my parents were raised and all relatives lived (exception being when Dad was stationed in Europe). So, like you, I didn't have her in my daily life yet the quality of my time with her created endless love emotion in me. How blessed you are to have grandchildren, can't help but wonder if they are geographically close. Thanks for coming by, Kim, it's always a pleasure. CayCay

My Grannie will never know how many loving poems her love has generated in my life though I did mail her some while she was still alive. She was a baby powder love blessing of great softness-significance to me. That you felt the tender and loving feel means I succeeded in a poem worthy of her meaning to me. Thank you for all you wrote. Poetry hugs ... CayCay
