The River Gomati-Win

O grandma *Gomati, was born on thy bank And born of a mother bearing your name On all the yesterdays your water I drank Am still the part of your pattern and frame. My blood flows in thy stream meandering It’s a kind of earthly immortality, I stand by you and feel kinship endearing Know not much about gods but your affinity I learnt to strive, to sink and to seek depth ever Simply Hydrogen and Oxygen doesn’t make water Something third is needed to make you what you’re Nobody knows except you Ma and your Creator. ******* Dr. Ram Mehta June29, 2011 Twelwth Place win in Contest: best dedication poem by P.D. ================================= *Gomati is the name of the river in Gujarat State of India. My home town Dwarka where Lord Krishna ruled once, is on the bank of River Gomati. My mother too was born there and she was christened as Gomati after the name of the river. Great interesting verse Dr Ram, yes we have links to places and times oasises:) India did have it all back before Atlantis fall. Technology seem to come and leave on this planet, over aeons of time. Yes Yoga is good for the soul and calmness too. my problem is i'm semi literate....went to work as a boy, missed the education mostly :)

Rivers are divine to us in India and you have nicely depicted the sacredness of this river Gomti and what a beautiful tribute to your mother who's her namesake...in UP you know Dr Ram, we say Gangaji and Jamnaji and I liked that when I first came here. Good Luck to you and Regards, gautami

I like the sense of immortality you create in this piece. It reminds me of a book I read about a boy who had an experience in a river and consequently remembered every life he had when he was reincarnated. I will check your blog :)

It’s a beauty you have sketched on the canvas of Poetry. For a moment I thought you are mentioning the river Gomti, which flows near Lucknow in U.P,India, but I saw your photo link & recollected the Gomti which you have mentioned & I had seen while visiting your wonderful town Dwarka. It’s a very touching write you have painted in this wonderful poem. My good wishes for your contest entry & thank your kind and precious comments on Radha's Love Song. Love and best wishes .Ravindra...Dr. Mehta
