The Right One
When you are twenty
You feel your heart burst.
You think you're in love,
This time's your first.
But time moves on
And you fall out of love.
You meet someone else
Who must be sent from above.
More meaningful now
Than when you were younger.
Your heart beats harder
And it feels like thunder.
But time once again
Changes how you feel.
You have new doubts,
Is this one for real?
The cycle plays out
Over years and years.
Excruciating happiness
Followed by tears.
"Til one day, unexpected,
You look up and find
The one who touches you heart
Also touches your mind.
And now you know
That this is the one.
The rest never mattered
They were just there for fun.
When you're about ready
To swear off them all
Along comes the right one
To answer the call.
Never give up,
Hold out for the best.
Take time to find true love
And pass on the rest.
