The Reluctant Bride

#3 on best new poems list as of 5/6/2025

in church
            watching the chocolate eyes
of the beautiful
            but not proverbial blushing bride
I am chilled by this childish union
choking on
            bitterness and broken inside

Like David, I see so many potential avenues for this, Andrea. This could so easily begin a haunting tale or, indeed, end one. As it stands, I too felt an uneasy chill that I rarely experience in such a short write. Congrats on POTD. Well deserved. Terry

Andrea, I see congrats are in order. Very good! Sounds like some kind of arranged marriage. I can see it could make an observer unhappy to see it. You're probably making it up, but it does happen quite a bit.

' Chilled by this childish union. ' It doesn't sound like a good marriage. You never know, though. So many emotions within, my dear friend. Congratulations Andrea, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Blushing bride with chocolate eyes hadn't any choice of whom she'd love. If she had, perhaps her eyes would have been auburn eyes filled with love. Congratulations on your POTD, Andie! Cheers!~

Dear Andrea, Wow. your words hit me hard. The way you captured that moment, the contrast between beauty and devastation, the weight of something so permanent yet so wrong, absolutely masterful. Congrats on POTD so well deserved! Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Its a sad story, Of course, success depends on mutual effort, respect, and the willingness of both partners to make the marriage work. It’s not the system itself but the individuals involved who determine the outcome. Perhaps in this case love came after all? Congratulations on your POtd dear Andrea...Hugs
