The red balloon of my childhood
      chasing rainbows
    the rush of ozone
  hairspray
wait…
that’s my sister’s parade
  big hair
    I was nowhere near
      with babies
    early eighties
  Oahu
oh to be a child in the wild
  spray of the playful
    sea, still
      i felt like a child
    riveted by waves
riding
  the boogie board
    not grown up enough
      to surf
    the burp of fantasy
  precious buffet
of paradise
         the red balloon loose
      i chase its caboose
    living
in its wake

Childhood memories revisit us time and again and we then become children. Chasing balloons has always been a pleasure for me too when I was a child ! Enjoyed this poem .....

I love this Kim. A wonderful poem. Sometimes I read a poem here at Poetry Soup and think that it deseves to be read by a wider audience. This is one of those. The Banksy image compliments your words so well.

You really are a talented and unusuallly creative woman! Hold on to those lovely pictures in your soul. You are a poetess not a negative narrator. I can feel the winds of your childhood. Golly, should be a POTD. Pangie Another Fave Pangie....xx

You can still come to Oahu, but your memory of clean beaches and sea will be destroyed. Time marches on, so enjoy your memories! Aloha!
