The Real True Me
Every morning I look into the mirror
I see myself afraid to step nearer
I face myself each day with sorrow
How will I face myself tomorrow?
I face many people every day
Do they see me in the same way?
On the outside I feel ugly, lonely, and torn
On the inside I feel loved, wanted and warm
Ever have the feeling you’re wearing a mask?
Ever wanted to know, but afraid to ask?
The feeling is scary and should never come to mind
The feeling is terrifying to many of our kind
The mask on your face no one can ever remove
The mask that we see is a reflection of you
On the outside it may be hard for you to see
Until you look down under to the real true me
Each time you look at this face of mine
You’ll see the same thing every time
If you look at me then sit and wonder
You never took the time to look down under
I am afraid to show you what my mask will hold
It’s a better story if remained untold
When I see what I don’t want to see
I take the time to see the real true me.
