The Rains of Today
They say that it refreshes the earth
But all I see are muddied puddles
And skies of a myriad muddle of somber greys
Where are the daises dazzling in sunlit glory?
Where are peeking heads of sprouting buds?
Where is the laughter of child dancing in the fields?
My father says its coming, but he is referring to the coming summer
Where is the promised beauty of spring?
It isn’t present in this constant downpour
I can’t see it in this half storm drizzle
But what can I do, but watch the rains of today
And hope for the dreams of tomorrow’s spring
