The Prisoner

She hides her true feelings behind a mask Showing signs of false happiness Seeing that the innocence of her childhood Has long since past How many times has she been judged? Been mistreated because of some small thing? Abandoned by her own mother and father She’s been Misguided by the hands of fate How many terrors has she seen? How many atrocities have been committed By those she loves? By the people whom she trusted? Among the shadows on the wall That dance round and round She closes her eyes as a single tear falls As she imagines a happier time and place
