The Prettiest Love Songs

"Morning has broken
Like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken
Like the first bird." By Eleanor Farjeon

Black plumage has the male bird ~ preening his suit with his buttery beak
Landing upon my balcony, his head held high singing songs of love
Always thrilled to hear my boy, I know he was sent just for me
Calling females from February to July, sings for hours ‘tis me, here am I’
Known to love singing as rainfall has ceased, celebrates with volume increased
Beautifully serenading he performs morning songs, first heard just before dawn
In recent years he’s become a dear friend, each year revisiting as winter ends
Recently sensing my love in disguise always brings tears of joy to my eyes
Daily he sings me the prettiest love songs that surely must come from above

Hello Ann … I agree with you. A beautiful song bird. We have blackbirds everywhere here and the males song before dawn comes from all directions. Everyday one forages on the lawn close to our back door. Nicely described Ann - Lindsay

Good morning Lindsay how nice to hear from you and I am so pleased you too can enjoy the song of the Blackbird. We used to have one that returned each year to nest in our garden - we knew it was him because he had a white area on his chest and we named him Scruff. He also became quite tame. Thank you for your lovely comments Lindsay. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

I was not aware that blackbirds sing. I enjoyed the intimate feel of this piece.

Thanks Richard glad you enjoyed my poem. A male blackbirds song is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful songs He will often sing into the twilight and his song is delightful and melodic. My particular bird often sits on my balcony singing his heart out - I love it. Though sadly he will not be back now until early spring. Thanks for your visit. With kindest thoughts Ann xx
