The Preacher Showed Up Late

The preacher showed up late.
The congregation sat
Confused, uneasy
Left alone
With each other.

A baby cried
A sparrow chirped
In the choir loft
The old organ sighed.

An old woman stood
Prayed aloud:
“Oh, Lord, thank you”
“For leaving us to ourselves
That we might find each other.”

“Let us share
A sign of peace,
A smile, a word, a helping hand.”

The preacher walked slowly
from the vestibule.
Ascended the pulpit
And simply said…..

AMEN!

LOL - John. Very witty but enuff said with the Amen! I had a similar situation recently as lay leader in our church. Our pastor was on vacation and enlisted another preacher and she failed to show. I had to do a lot of creative innovation including enlisting some members of the congregation to call it a worship service! Bob
