The Poet Fool On the Hill

The Poet Fool on the Hill

Deems any words on paper, a poem
doth make?
Sans meaning, depth, beauty, tis but
a veritable fake!

Classical forms cut to pieces with joy
galore?
Ah, but new forms named after sandwiches,
oh my, they do score?

Poems that make our spirits rise or
surreptitiously fall.
These, my fellow poets cannot be purchased
at your local mall.

Repetitive long poems with Thesaurian words
obscenely dull and reeling.
Shall I pen these, to be at the pinnacle of the
Poetry Soup ceiling?

Tis said it takes ten years to become a good poet.
For me, I am just a beginner, and I most humbly
admit, I most painfully know it.

Hey, Pangs, (may I call you Pangs?) I took this quote from a poem Tom Wright posted...*FOOLS LIVE TO REGRET THEIR WORDS....WISE MEN TO REGRET THEIR SILENCE. Will Henry* I always thought the THESAURUS was a wordy dinosaur

Sometimes John the better quote would be, "do fools know they are fools?" You can quote me on that!

Well said my friend. It is a skill that takes much time and effort. But such a worthwhile journey to be on. Have a great day.

David, your work is outstanding! Poetry is far from giving weather reports or writing recipes.. i can tell you have been on this journey a long time. Even in comments, there is an art. Cookie cutter comments, are so obviously, empty shells. Must read more of you! Thank you...Pangie

I too am a beginner for sure, but each time I pen my thoughts it gives me such joy as I enter another world and for a while find peace and calm within and lovely friends to share with. Love to you dear friend from Ann xx

Lately, Ann, i awake crying in pain...and I start writing poetry to alleviate it. Amazing how writing, stops the agony. Thus we both find peace in poetry and in friendship. What a great share you made. Thank you for including me in your life, Ann! Love, Pangie and Queen Irene ^*^

I agree that long words with 'Thesaurian words' (what a great phrase) can be quite tedious to read - beginner or not, there is much to admire in your work!

Wow, Michelle! Iam not a Yale graduate, so no need to pretend I am one-)) My poetry is conversational. Nothing more. Not here to wow peoples’ socks off. It would be like me in heavy makeup and false eyelashes, batting my eyes at poets. I do not write to please nor fit in. That, apparently, irritates a contingent here..I see me being me, the only gift I have! Appreciate your generous compliment. Pangie

Well, thesauruses aside, I can sure identify with that last stanza. I, too, am a veritable beginner -- It'll be four years on December 28. Here's to beginner's luck! :)

Thought you were at this game, longer Gershon! Iam two years behind you. Glad you can identify with the last stanza. ))) Deeply appreciate your support and our shared beginnings in Chicago. Plus other shared values that are far deeper.......Pangie Best wishes in your pursuit of poetic excellence.***
