The Pleas Within My Hallelujahs

Lord, a storm is raging- in our mist
Our nation suffers- with its twists
I know you see these roots of evil, don’t you?
We spend our time- getting ahead
We’ve lost sight- of the blood you shed
With hope we raise our voice with Hallelujahs
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There are children hungry- in our streets
The population- ignores the weak
But you send your angels in their mist, now don’t you
There are murders committed -in our land
It’s time for us- to take a stand
Please hear our pleas in these broken Hallelujahs
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Reparations needed- for wicked deeds
Twas with sinful lust- evil bare its seeds
We need cleansing from immorality, please won’t you?
As we bend our knees- and bow our heads
We lay our plight- at your feet instead
Our prayers not lost within our Hallelujahs
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

The signs that you -are coming soon
Have been preached for years- with sudden doom
But with loving hands you’ll save your children, won’t you.
You’ll pluck your flowers from the weeds
Salvation winning over sinful deeds
With our faith we raise our voices in Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

With humbled heart and meek attitude
We come to you, with our gratitude
And raise our voice with joyful Hallelujahs
Salvation bought with your blood depleted
Victory was won with death defeated
Your brides await the bridegroom, Hallelujah!!
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Written for a Members Contest to write a lyric to the tune of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”
I decided to keep the Hallelujah’s in place because I think we need to hear more “Hallelujahs” in our world today.

A masterpiece unto itself Debra. This has soul. Praise the Lord and pass the ammo. That cute little boy was dressed in camo. Inocence has been betrayed. We've forgotten peace as we have strayed. Hallelujah. Good luck in the contest. Deserves to place high. :)
