The Pearl
The precious pearl adorning neck
of haughty lady grand,
began as a sharp irritant,
a minute grain of sand.
The mollusk doomed to carry it
through the ensuing years
released liquid to ease the pain.
It's been called "lady's tears".
Seldom does she remember that
poor oyster and his tasks.
She sits in reflected beauty
and in pearl's glory basks.
