The Paradox of Love

We love those who don’t love us
And we don’t love those who do
We long for the unfaithful
And neglect those who are true

We give to those who have no need
And withhold from those who do
We run after those who run away
And run away from ones who pursue

We flirt with those who are aloof
And are aloof with those who flirt
We treat like gold the worthless
And the worthy we treat like dirt

We die for those who’re indifferent
And are indifferent to those who die
It's the state of our foolish hearts
Will someone please to tell me why?

He says I am his heart and soul
You’re indifferent to my needs
He vows he’d die without my love
Yet it’s for you my heart bleeds

He claims I’m his oxygen
CO2 I am to you
His eyes want to eat me up
YOU’RE my honey through and through

My foolish heart has lost its wits
The world has gone crazy too
I love him who loves me not
Tell me, is this true for you?

I only declare this kind of love to my Nintendo, Italian Food & Ovaltine. This is fierce and painfully thought-provoking. You look FANTASTIC on video!!!!!!!!!! Great hair! :D

I absolutely love this poem and its many truths about human nature and love. I think this is an exceptional write, Eileen. Plus, tell me who hurt you if it was recently and I'll beat him up!!! 7 ... CayCay (I hate change so I'm not listening though change is inevitable and I'll give in eventually, always have)

Hello, sweetie! :) Thanks so much for visiting and for this sweet comment. It is so appreciated. This is the fabric of most literary works, is it not? I captured it in a poem. I'm so grateful that you enjoy my writing and the video. My daughter keeps advertising it on FB....Her friends are telling her that she's so lucky to have me for a Mama and they wish I could be around to give them advice on their personal lives. My daughter's pride in my work is my greatest joy. I'm happy many here are also supportive.

Thank you, Connie. That's so sweet of you. It is good that I can mention that I'm on Poetry Soup. It gives credibility to me as a writer. Thank you for your encouragement. It wasn't an easy thing to post the videos, but now that I have, I'm quite enjoying it. Of course, there is always room for improvement. I just hope to be able to record the next couple before the purple flowers on the jacaranda tree fall. Hugs

Part of the fun is in the chase and in the cat and mouse games we play with love. So often true. Getting to know someone through letters (emails now or texts) is so helpful and important. It makes you aware of their worth, and not just that sexual attraction a person is often fooled by. Both my daughters met their guys online and had in depth conversations before ever meeting. They are both pretty much engaged and it has only been a year! Your poem says it all. Excellent Eileen! #7 ; )

I'm so happy for your daughters. It's lovely to find love and technology has done much to make that "courting" process easier. :) That's why I wrote my sonnet, The Written Face of Love. Once again...I'm touched by your visit.

How true, how true dearest, Eileen! This is a mirror where reality is reflected! This happens because some people do not go after love but after self-confirmation! In true love we will not see these things! I enjoyed your writing! A seven!

My dear esteemed poet, your praise is always dear and precious to me. You lift me high when others, due to jealousy and misinformation bring me down with hurtful comments. Thank you for your good kind heart. God will bless you for it. Hugs

Thanks, Lewis. Much appreciated. It's a simple little write....as someone has commented about it. Not up to par, but....it's something I wrote some time ago, and the principle is profound if not the vessel or mode of deliverance. Thanks ever so much.

I'm happy to say I live my life opposite of this one. I do however know many who do live and love this way. Well expressed Eileen.
