Notes About The Poem

I woke up this morning to a hooting owl. As I peaked out my window I thought I was going to witness the death of a squirrel by the hunger of an owl. Good thing for the squirrel that the sound of my window opening up had scared him off. Or for certain he probably would have been breakfast for the owl.

The Owl and the Chipmunk

Sitting on a rooftop
About one hundred feet from me
Was a big old hooting owl
Eyeing a chipmunk in a tree

It was early in the morning
And the sun was on the rise
When his wings began to flutter
As the sun glared in his eyes

The chipmunk started chirping
As he ran away to play
And the owl kept on hooting
Because his breakfast ran away

'Good on ya mate' as they say in Australia - for opening your window and scaring that confounded owl. Because I love squirrels - let it go and find a mouse - A very humorous write Charles. It gave me a chuckle before I shut my window and turned in for the night...Maria :)
