The One Thing I Won'T Follow

I follow footsteps,
they guide me to someone else.
I follow shadows,
so not to loose my friends.
I follow the path
of some great person,
for they'll guide me to a much better place.
I follow the words of my teachers,
they know what they say.

Though everything I follow
has been bright in me, day and night.
But I won't follow trends:
in them I see no light.
