The One I Chose To Stay
An immediate infatuation
extinguished after one season
of young love and wavering
emotions
Regretfully I lost your heart
and your trust, so
I had to let you go
I’ve selfishly carried you
through the years
An imprint on my heart
I cannot erase
My illusions to endure
waking from dreams unsure
I try to let you go
I ran into you
like an old love song
You took my breath and my heart
when you drove away
I realized you were not only
the one who got away
but also the one
I chose to stay
