The Old Victorian

My great, great Aunt had a lovely old home, with many a wonderful story, hidden within its walls. A Victorian, architectural designers dream; vaulted ceilings, full of ghosts; where spirit voices sang of its splendor. What I remember most, were the sparkly door knobs; prisms reflecting the sunlight; beautiful rainbow colors, adorning her sitting room walls. The animated colors of her crystalline chandelier wove dancing shadows into the fabric. As a small child, I reveled in that light-play; how I loved her magical home.

Yes it's true, houses have a life and soul of their own, sometimes filled with treasured memories, sometimes otherwise. Nicely captured and expressed in this poem.

Wish there was a picture of where you have been, So we could be able to see it again and again, That place where all of those memories were made Which into past, you would never want to fade. Trinkets and things that would always dazzle you, Almost as if each one could make your dream come true, Reminding me of the time we first had met, And the story is sure to get much better yet. Poetry Soup be sure to put dreams on, Before they disappear and have all gone. Jim Horn

Some Aunts are so special I had one when I was a baby to age oh around 5 in Maine who had the prettiest white farmhouse. A wonderful sun porch full of white wicker & I so remember making pies with her at the kitchen table ALL in a wonderful golden light! THANK you for helping me remember her. Light & Love

My Great Aunt was a wonderful baker, as well; I recall that the scents were a big part of visits to her home. I was in seventh heaven whenever we visited. I'll bet that you aunt's farmhouse was scented delight, as well. Thanks

Reminds me of Pollyanna. Did you ever see it? If not, you should after writing this poem.

I did see Pollyanna, years ago, but I swear, my Great Aunt had 10 times more trinkets and what-nots than were in the movie. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

It was a beautiful old house. She passed when I was in my 20's and it's been changed a lot, by other owners, since. But it was a magical place. The smell of her constant baking filled it and it may have added to the magic, for me. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
