When I was a young lad we used to play behind a Sweet-Shop (candy store) in the woods. There was an old dirt road that was nothing more than an zigzagging trail in the latter years. Now there is a developement there with townhouses and streets. I remember many times being chased by the police as we rode our mini-bikes through the trails. We knew those trails so well we would never get caught (lol). Great times...So sad a memory.

I shared my life with you... So much my friend I thought my times with you... would never end On your winding trail... I walked Where rabbits ran... and squirrels squawked I've seen the shadows... from the sun Mini-bikers... on the run You kept us smiling... you old road Where Lois Lane... and Jimmy rode With no white lines... to smudge your style Memories saved... on every mile An Indian path... you used to be Broken arrows... in the tree Your fluffy dirt... now neat and paved Like Prince Charles... All clean and shaved The government... had bought and sold So say, so long... you old dirt road

What a tribute! -- To a dirt road, no less. Very creative, yet very real too. Enjoyed thoroughly. Thanks, Charlie!

Oh, Charlie, what wistful reverie! You captured feelings and textures with wonderful sensory imagery and emotions that in turn captured my heart and imagination. This piece brims with beautiful nostalgia mixed with present-day melancholy of good times gone by.. loved it, my dear friend! Warmest wishes.. ~Susan
