The Mockingbird
Day 1:
It’s early and I need my fix, berries or seed
I will fly next door but must watch for the monster
He is fluffy and orange and has claws, he tried to chase me
I will mock him, make all kinds of sounds, to scare him away
There he is, I land on his house roof and start singing
A doorbell sound, a siren, a screech, has he left yet?
I see a flash of orange run into the house, I won, ha ha!
I fly to the birdseed, whoa, I stop, there is a huge Blue Jay
I am beyond irritated, I squawk, dance and make a scene
Day 2:
The sweet lady comes out every morning with a huge beast
He tried to chase me one morning at the feeder, he is quick
I flew to safety, to the lilac bushes and hid in the bird house
I need to try again, there is so much free food, is it a trap?
I fly over even earlier to feed but there is another monster
He is black and white and stalks me, maybe I can attack him?
I decide to keep searching, I see another house I can try
I need to find new sounds to use for my feeding strategy
Alas, sweet berry suet, I rejoice with my many melodies!
