The Message

I BATTLE
                            AGAINST WHAT I’VE BEEN TAUGHT
                          WITH EVERYTHING I KNOW IS RIGHT
                                               I GO ON

                                TRYING TO KEEP MY SANITY
                                   THEY NAME ME A REBEL
                                  YOUNG, FREE, AND ALIVE
                                       A SPIRIT ON FIRE
                        TRYING NOT TO TURN COLD… HARDENED

                            THEY WANT ME TO BE LIKE THEM
                             THE SAME BATTLES NEVER WON
                        THEY WANT ME TO FIGHT THEIR CAUSE…
                                             CONFUSED

                            I KNOW WHAT THEY WANT FOR ME
                                YET I KNOW WHAT I BELIEVE…
                                           SLOW DEATH

                                      IF I KEEP MY BELIEFS
                                      THEY DRIVE ME OUT
                                      IF I FIGHT FOR THEM
                                    MY SPIRIT DIES CRYING…

                                         ONE
                                               LONELY
                                                         CHILD

In one single poem you outline the problems which you had to face in your teens, Chris. Good thing you had blind faith in yourself! The Private Wars is a book which I would strongly suggest to Soupers to read. ~ Regards // paul
