The Menorah By the River

Every year, there’s a menorah As a neighborhood display, But when I walked past, I noticed It was missing – what the hey? So I went to check it out and I was shocked at what I found. It was moved from its location, All its branches on the ground. It appeared to have been vandalized, Like others where I live. Such a sad and shocking crime, It would take effort to forgive. To discover this on Christmas, When the spirit should bring peace, Hammers home the point that hatred In this world will never cease.

When will this hatred and lack of tolerance toward others ever end?

I am sad to hear about this; so many people do not appreciate spirituality or religion or have respect for themselves or others - sadly.

Things like this should never have to be written about, but I'm very glad you did, Ilene. Maybe in another few million...or billion...years, humankind will manage to evolve past those last two lines.

A good poem, in need of telling. Unfortunately your last verse “hammers home the point.” John

Well-done, Ilene. A sad reminder of the era we are living in. Everyone except us Jews thought the day of the Nazi-brown shirts was over... It's coming back as strong as ever throughout the world. ~ Ever Vigilant
