The Masticator

Some folks like food that’s smooth to touch their lips; which does not come in chunks or crunchy sticks. They take their tea in leisurely small sips or eat ice cream with lots of tiny licks. I rarely ask for smoothies or for yogurt, for puddings or for bland and jiggling jello. I much prefer the entrees to dessert and something hearty over something mellow. To salty, crunchy foods I gravitate: popcorn and potato chips and nachos, and on my plate some food to masticate: pasta, pizza, burgers, fries or tacos. A large hot soup can soothe my appetite if served with lots of crackers I can BITE! For the the Screwed XII Poetry Contest of Rob Carmack from 10/6/2013

Nice poem. Actually, the first stanza mirrors beautifully a psychological personality... Congratulations for the win...

So Petal, you're a biter, never took you to be a sucker anyway lol, I'm a chunky cruncher myself. Good luck in the contest. Take care, Richard

I guess I'm just lazy, but I prefer soft food. I'll have a marshmallow but you're welcome to a toffee. Same enjoyment but more effort to get down. Lovely poetry, Andrea. Good luck in the contest, my friend. Licia :-)

Andrea - prestidigitator with words, master of the Sonnet. This one is right up my proverbial old alley. I love Mexican food. I have so few teeth left, though, that I eat a lot of soft food. Love, daver

Just loved the tactile allusions in the first 2 verses! GO Andie! as to the critters in the haiku/ish examples it matters not Andie what matters is that the poets grasp the difference between SHOW and TELL ;) Light & Love

No squishy foods for me either. I just let it be, especially if it's broccoli. Jack

Sounds like a lot of calories - I try hard with that but am not always successful. A tasty read - indeed! Glad you liked "Rising Tide". There is a mayoralty race going on in New York and it looks strongly like the Democrat will win. I just about always vote. In fact my mother once ran for office - she lost. No fun losing at anything - poetry included. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

I have to admit that title sure piqued my interest, I surely wondered what you could be talking about when you brought up a masticator! But I kinda figured that what you wrote about is what I expected! I loved what you have written here my friend! What a ingenious piece, Great Work!!
