Trump's tariffs will affect most car manufacturers more than Tesla. Regulators cited Musk's companies for numerous serious environmental violations. What will occur as the richest man in the world influences economic policy and removes oversight?

Musk has deployed a mother lode Trump’s tariffs can't ever erode! His influence gift Means we get short shrift And Earth is his private commode

Your limerick is a concise but impactful commentary on the relationship between power, influence, and the consequences of the actions taken by those at the top. The use of humour makes the critique feel less heavy-handed, while still delivering a potent message.

I don’t know why everyone is so scared of the T word. It concentrates the mind and brings people to the bargaining table. The threat of tariffs on Mexico is already bearing fruit. Trump has done more in four weeks to fix the southern border than that Biden/Harris clown show did in four years. Cheer up, it’s gonna be a fun four years.

Thanks so much silent one. It’s good that we can still use a bit of humor when making a point. There will certainly be no shortage of material for the coming years (assuming we can post freely).

The inclusion of Trump’s tariffs in the second line also ties into the broader critique of leadership, suggesting that policies or actions taken by powerful figures can have lasting effects on everyday people. The lighthearted, almost irreverent tone of the limerick doesn't soften the sharpness of the message; instead, it uses humor to make the critique more accessible while keeping the reader engaged.

Hi Duke, money rules it's the poor who suffer.

Thanks John, btw I help with my mom who has dementia. I consider myself a caregiver as well as family. The rich billionaires and their army don’t realize that toxic products and violence don’t respect their paychecks and compounds. As the quest for profit continues degrading the planet to breaking point, they’ll have an epiphany a bit late. How long will they all last in a bunker?

Duke, a great limerick. I am scared of what the tariffs may do to our economy. Congratulations on POTD.

Thanks Tania, there’s an entire world out there. Some don’t yet realize that what we do now can have blowback later. The trade relationships we have took time to develop and set up and were designed to benefit all of North America. Hopefully it’s short term bluster just to grab headlines and we’re just being spoofed. We’ll see. There’s more concentrated power with chaos and Mr. maga lives it.

Thanks Keith...It comes down to not wanting rule by intimidation. I can see that would be hard for some to understand. Thanks for the comedy relief.

- A modern mutiny... the abuse of power, money and sex is dynamite in politics, Duke - Congratulations on your p.o.t.d. :) - hugs

Anne-Lise, you are most kind. I like your description of "modern mutiny." Some people with wealth and power use their influence in shortsighted ways and can hijack the entire planet (which is the ship we are all on). It's very difficult for an environmentalist or person observing nature to understand since the damage done seems plain as day and so selfish.

Indeed, very satiric a ironic. It's a political reality very subtly and powerfully portrayed. "Earth is his private commode"... Ha.. Ha.. Congratulations!

Thanks Christuraj...I could imagine the world being a much better place for everyone if greed were suppressed a bit and more attention were paid to scientific facts that pass peer review. It seems odd to me that some can act so foolishly. His money only amplifies the degree with which he can display egomania. It makes me feel shame for our species.

Tom, thanks so much. I was surprised by this honor. I am a firm believer in consensus decision making, and one person having so much power and expressing it the way he does will not be a good thing. We seem to be slipping down an unwelcome path, but we shall see where we end up. I didn't mention it before, but I loved the title of your last poem...Twas the night before Christmas Eve. It's truly a poem for the ages and I am making it a fave. I love how it demonstrates true Christmas spirit! Very sweet! What's the word you use...Teamwork! Right on target, sir!

Dear duke, hmm, this limerick made me think deep but picture youv generated and used to illustrate your poem here is deep and conveys alot, all i can think of is, it can either be all good or all bad, only time could tell, we hope for the best and vote for certain leaders , wishing for once things might change , to end up disappointed, that its all the same, empty promises, people used for their own benefit, such is the political scene, so far from my observations and experience. I believe mostly in patterns and what they show, through actions, so lets see for the mars man. Hmm haha. You have a way with expressing! Sending you and your family light always

Thanks IE. I think people should maintain a small footprint on this planet and have a firm grip on reality based on peer-reviewed science. I see a lot of delusional behavior from leaders and not so much concern for our future. That motivates me to write (along with other behaviors and ironies I see in day to day life). I think we're both trying to make the world a better place and I enjoy that aspect of what you write. What you do gives me a sense of awe. Smiles!

i just love that last line Duke and sadly with trump in power and musk rat as his sidekick people across the globe will finally realise we have all been shat upon and the richest man will continue to profit and get more and more powerful:-( makes you want to weep at how naive people are hugs jan xx

Jan, There are people busy with their own lives who were dragged down (flushed) with the currents of streaming. They became cult followers. All but the rich were affected by inflation (which was global) and the Biden administration got slammed by the immigration issue and LGBTQ+ rights issues. Musk's influence and wishes ignore the total effect of what he wants to do. The costs (including those not on corporate balance sheets) will be more than the savings and the planet will suffer. If this continues, the planet eventually goes bankrupt. That time is coming and will be quite the thing to see. Makes me think of lemmings. I'm not sure if people will get it in time or even want to. Many cult situations end badly. We do hope we can reverse this lunacy.
