The Market-Frankford Line

Down the street, some cigarettes,
 a soda bottle, raisenettes;

Up the stairs, a sticky floor,
 before the Market-Frankford door;

Last inside, the beggar man,
 please spare a dollar if you can;

Wedged behind, an old receipt,
 please get yourself a thing to eat;

Look outside, the evening sky,
 the mottled buildings passing by;

Sitting on, a windowsill,
 a cat is staring staying still;

Down the stairs, a sticky floor,
 beyond the Market-Frankford door;

Up the street, some cigarettes,
 a soda bottle, raisenettes.

I love the imagery in this vivid portrait of eclectic city life!
