The Man Beside Me

One day while riding on a bus, just on my way to school,
A man sat down beside me, dressed so plain—so “uncool.”
He smiled and said, “I am the Son of God, the only One.”
I stared in disbelief, and thought, What’s wrong with you, man?

I tried to move and change my seat, but then He looked my way—
That gentle smile disarmed my heart; I had no words to say.
Could it be Jesus sitting here, right next to me today?
For when I looked into His eyes, I saw both man and grace displayed.

He took my hand and softly asked, “Who do they say I am?”
I froze, unsure of what to speak—afraid to miss the plan.
Some call You myth, some say You’re man, or just divinity...
But those who truly know the Truth see both—God’s mystery.

How can the Infinite wear flesh, in mortal form confined?
Why choose to walk the dusty roads of humankind?
Yet justice must be satisfied—He came to take our place,
The spotless One bore human guilt, redeeming us by grace.

How can divinity and man in one existence blend?
Could God not send a perfect man and still bring sin to end?
But none born of our fallen race could stand without a stain—
So only God made flesh could bridge the gap and break our chain.

He cupped my cheeks and whispered low, “Blessed are you, My son.
For not all men will understand the truth of who I am.
Few dare to stand for sound belief while others drift away—
So hold the Word, proclaim My Name, till the breaking of the day.”

Then suddenly—a trumpet blast! My heart leapt in surprise—
But it was just my morning alarm that called me to arise.
I smiled and whispered, “Lord, I see,” and hurried off to stand—
To preach of Jesus risen high—God’s glory among man.

The Creator clothed in creation’s frame,
The King of Heaven bore our shame.
He left His throne, took poverty’s span,
To save the lost—O love so grand!

The risen Jesus—Son of God, Son of Man—
Victorious over death, completing salvation’s plan.
Such love beyond our minds to understand—
For only He could bridge the gulf ‘tween God and man.
