The Love That Once Filled Our Hearts
Thinking of how love once filled our hearts,
From the first day we met, we were never far apart.
More love than I ever believed I could feel—
I never imagined that kind of love could be real.
But then I felt it, and it was phenomenal.
I look back on the joy that bloomed in my chest,
And remember the ache when distance crept in and pressed.
We felt so close in those early days,
Until trouble stirred from familiar ways—
From voices near you, sharing shadows and doubt,
And slowly, our light began flickering out.
I sensed when something wasn’t right,
And asked you gently, but you’d say, “It’s alright.”
Yet actions speak louder than words ever do,
And your silence began to feel untrue.
No matter how often you said things were fine,
Your actions betrayed you, time after time.
We argued again and again, until truth broke through,
And somehow, you blamed me for noticing you.
You resented me for seeing the space,
For asking questions, for naming the trace.
I don’t think you meant to blame me at all—
But shame made you stumble, made you build a wall.
You hid things that made you feel blue,
And resented me for seeing what was true.
It hurt you when I wouldn’t accept your disguise,
When I asked for clarity, not half-truths or lies.
I wasn’t trying to accuse or condemn,
Just trying to understand what happened to us then.
I bring this up not to cast blame,
But to name the way resentment became our flame.
No matter who was wrong or right,
Our minds record every fight.
We get conditioned by the past,
And react too fast when new troubles amass.
We forget to ask what the other one meant,
And instead, we defend and grow resent.
What I’m really trying to say is this:
If one of us feels hurt or dismissed,
Wouldn’t it help to pause and reflect—
To ask why the message caused such effect?
If the impression was wrong from the start,
Let’s care enough to speak from the heart.
Not get defensive or shut down the view,
But work through the illusion until we see what’s true.
We’ve done this dance for far too long,
Reacting to shadows, getting it wrong.
I do it to you, and you to me—
Couldn’t we just both agree?
When trouble starts and tension grows,
Let’s take a breath before it explodes.
Let’s calmly talk, not escalate,
Let’s choose love before it’s too late.
The love we have still lives inside,
And that’s why it hurts when we divide.
It’s always been our deepest ache—
Couldn’t we make some rules, for both our sake?
I know the love I hold for you will always be,
But maybe for you, it’s no longer something you see.
If that’s the truth, then find your peace—
And I’ll let go, and grant release.
Even if it means we can no longer be,
Go find your happiness—for me.
