The Love of Roses

Perfect purple petals adorn this stunning rose Sweetly smelling scent drifts gently to my nose Nestling in my bouquet is this stunning flower Sheer perfection, I stare at it hour on hour The rose can hide a secret, a nasty pointed thorn It can hurt you deeply of this I must you warn The path of true love doesn’t always run smooth With patience and love these issues you’ll soothe A stunning red rose is a symbol of true love Their velvety petals sent from heaven above Be sure of your love when he does propose Cherish your love like this delicate rose Jan Allison 18~12~14 Written too late for contest:-(

Jan, I'm enjoying your poetry more and more. To me I love Roses, and one Rose in particular. I've written quite a few poems about Roses, especially Dark Poetry. I so love this poem, James :) xxxx

Gorgeous write. With a rose at least you see the thorns. There are those who hide theirs. It is they you have to watch out for.

I too love your roses, Jan, although those thorns do get in the way at times! Such a pity you missed out on the contest:( In these modern days it might be a 'she' who does the proposing:)) Glad to hear about your mum enjoying the carol concert. hugs // paul

Wow, nicely done! Wise words woven around the rose and thorn -- I have been married 30 years and the rose is still beautiful but I still get stuck by the thorn!!
