The Love Affair of the Lighthouse and the Sea

The foghorn sounds from the beacon of light. This has always been the love affair, Between the lighthouse and the sea. A man stands on the beacon like a bird, Looking at freedom ready to fly away. He is wishing hoping to see his own, Freedom for his love of the sea. He is the keeper and protector of the lighthouse. He warns those of the cliffs. Yet, he still hears the screams that invade his dreams. I am drawn to the lighthouse as the sea calls to me. I look hoping to see her, The woman in my dreams. She always stands on the beacon, Waiting for her husband to return, Who is lost at sea. Then I finally see her, The ghost of her, Standing, waiting, hoping that he'll come home. But he never does. So she stands and cries with a broken heart.

Ahh!! Sad that women of long ago lost so much to the sea. This one is very expressive and emotive. I enjoyed reading it today. Thanks for sharing. Sara

Thank you so much Sara. I appreciate your lovely comments. The sea is so mysterious and they've taken so many people and with them many many secrets. Of course the gold and treasure also haha. It's really interesting even today we hear old ship wrecks and found gold. It's never really hidden. Thanks again.

Hello Shirley, I love the lighthouses. Each one of them is different and beautiful in their own ways. A sad ending to your poem. She died yet she still waits for her husband to come back. Hugs.

I know it's really sad but there are probably hundreds of women who stand waiting for their loved ones to come home from the sea. I love lighthouses, they are so mystical. Ghosts seem to always be around them.
