~ PLACED FIRST~
The Loneliness of Being Surrounded
I am amid a swirling sea of faces,
but don’t see even a feisty familiar face.
I hear plodding, passing feet-
men with sizzling brains and divided aims.
I drown in their clamorous cacophony-
their boastful blather ringing loud and wild.
Always feel I am alone-
So much a-l-o-n-e!
I look for one who will recognize me
seek one who understands me~
fathom my feelings and feel my pain.
No one, to hear or heed what I tell,
all absorbed in the puffed pageant of life.
Life is in constant, ceaseless flux-
a river that waits for no man,
on its whirling and winding way,
flowing restlessly down,
to some secret dreamy destination.
I am swept away, covered in frothy foam,
drifting aimless over wild waves like a hollow husk.
A cracked cup that can’t hold even a drop.
I feel so weary of it all.....
I must walk away from this multitudinous mob ,
flee from the stormy stygian clouds that surround.
Must withdraw into serene solitude~
move away from people and places,
where I lose my innate identity.
Solitude, in you, I find the glamour and grace of life.
In your mollifying melodious music, I get peace.
In your sweet stillness, my soul takes flight!
