I gaze up as you slowly come into view above the horizon and into the sky, painting the clouds in colors of every hue. Blue birds awaken and they begin to fly as I feel your radiance warming my face, and your blinding brightness shining in my eye. Flowers lift their faces to feel your embrace, and all life welcomes you at the start of day longing always to see your grandeur and grace. Even when winter skies are cloudy and grey our faith tells us you are forever around, and tomorrow you will be there come what may; above us in the sky not making a sound lighting our world and giving life an assist, and every day of our lives you will be found. If eternal clouds filled our skies you’d be missed for without you, O Sun, life could not exist. December 9, 2017

Thanks for considering it, SO, I started not to enter it since it wasn't new. I haven't had a lot of time for writing or reading lately; I did post a new poem this morning but it was actually written about 3 weeks ago. Thanks for hosting the contest. John

Superb Terza Rima with a very meaningful couplet ending! I have to add that up to this moment yours and one other, apart from the example, (and my own) are the only Terza Rima poems that follow/abide by the rules, or am I missing something? Best ever seasonal wishes, Mick

Mick, thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I agree with you, I don't think unrhymed tercets are properly called a Terza Rima; I don't think Dante would approve. This was my first attempt at a Terza Rima and I quite like the form. I will use it again. John

You, I have decided, are a talented writer. I have completely, top to bottom, enjoyed everything of yours that I've clicked on. So glad Soup has you here, John. This poem is another example of the lovely, grace your pen shares. A lovely read, indeed. All the best ... CayCay

CayCay, thank you for your gracious compliment, I am truly humbled. I have only been writing for about six months now and to have a polished writer like you, who has been writing so much longer, say that really means a lot to me. Thank you me friend!

Such beautiful lines you have used in your ode to the sun John, from a true sun lover I would say. I love the sun too, but there's a time limit to my worship of it sadly. One has to keep those dreaded wrinkles at bay after all....Maria

Maria, thank you for your comments. I started limiting my sun worship long ago, I suppose that’s why I don’t have too many wrinkles for my age. John

JOhn, this makes me wish I did not have to give up on the sun!! I have loved it all my life. BUt I loved it too well and now I am showing age from it! (I wrote a sonnet on that in the past several weeks) Yes, I adore the feel of it on my skin. I have written of it too, John (but this was my first year not to lay out on my deck as I did every summer in the past)

Andrea, as I’ve gotten older I have learned that the pleasures of life are best done in moderation, too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Sorry you had to end your love affair with the sun. Thanks for your comments. John
