Notes About The Poem
Author's Notes: "The light of a candle," is a new free verse that my wife, Ingrid, and I just completed on August 29, 2017. The theme and poetic essence of this particular verse should be readily apparent to the reader, especially from a metaphorical perspective. The ready contrast and comparison between the light and the dark both frame the spiritual and symbolic nature of the message of the simple light of a small candle and the pureness it represents with the "Flame of Eternity," in relation to the all-important role it plays in saving mankind and the Earth from the specter of total darkness. (Gary Bateman - August 31, 2017) (Free Verse)

The Light of a Candle

The light of a candle

The light of a candle
Can light up
The dark corners of a room
The darkness of a heart
The dark night of a soul.
The simple light of a small candle
Reminds us
In its pureness
Of the Flame of Eternity
As the savior from all darkness on Earth.

Very inspirational, Gary. Some people don't realize the candle stands for Jesus, the light of the world.
