The Life I Have Lived

The life I have lived — a life of faith,
Faith in God and faith in nature’s breath,
Faith in powers, faith in authorities,
Faith in wisdom, faith in what yet sees.

The life I have lived — a life of belief,
Belief in God’s existence, sure and brief,
Belief in God’s own character and might,
Belief in promises that guide the night.

The life I have lived — a life of trust,
Trust in the power of the just and just,
Trust in the hands of Nature’s constant care,
Trust in the Almighty’s reign everywhere.

The life I have lived — a life of care,
Care for the ones I love, the hearts I bear,
Care for the things I hold as truly dear,
Care for all life, for purity sincere.

The life I have lived — a life of respect,
Respect for nature, culture, intellect,
Respect for elders, leaders, and their ways,
Respect for what endures through fleeting days.

The life I have lived — a life obedient,
Obedient to God, and law’s commandment,
Obedient to learn, to follow, to stand,
Obedient to truth with open hand.

The life I have lived — a life of truth,
Truth that guides, that heals, that builds in youth,
Truth that shields and truth that does reveal,
Truth that teaches hearts to break and heal.

The life I have lived — a life of hope,
Hope for the future, vast and wide in scope,
Hope that with time all things will turn out well,
Hope to depart in peace — and bid farewell.
