Dedicated to the staff and to all those who love the 1881 Gardiner Public Library in Gardiner, Maine -- a place where I "grew up" in the literary world by spending my childhood days exploring every aisle over and over.
Stacks and stacks
and rows and rows
of history, mystery,
poetry and prose.
A brick-clad bastion,
a citadel, a home,
a place for the mind
to wander and roam,
to discover the world
and to discover within,
to learn and to savor
to renew or begin
a love affair with words
a love affair with tales
a love affair with pictures
to let the imagination set sail,
unfettered, unbounded,
unhindered and free,
a place for the reader
to simply just be
a magician, a conjurer
to make dreams come true
by allowing the books
to let you know about you,
to know what is out there
and what can be achieved,
what others have done
and what others have believed,
for those who seek in earnest
what treasures a library can truly hold,
is when the library becomes a place
where the Universe unfolds.
