The Last Time I Saw Her
It was last year's Easter Sunday,
I saw her last, before she went away.
It was also someone else's birthday,
As I saw my cousin's body pass, as it began to decay.
It was last year's spring,
We all saw her last, before her passing.
It was the dawn of our worst morning,
As my mother said on the phone, "She's dying."
It was one of the most painful times,
But the feelings made way for new rhymes.
It'll be one year soon, since we heard the chimes,
One year of finding so many dimes.
It was after last year's Easter dinner,
I saw her smile slowly go thinner.
It was last year we all tragically lost her,
A sad time we will always remember.
