Poem of the day on November 3, 2023
Placed 2nd: The Last Organ Grinder Contest; Sponsor: Silent One

He can turn the crank, to tunes of happy song, One that his crowd has cherished for long, But something has so terribly gone wrong For someone has declared: you don’t belong, O, you don’t belong; no, you do not belong, As organ music on streets is forever banned Dismantling livelihood, so long he planned. So today he turns the crank to words forlorn As emotions torn, in wistful rhythms mourn, This miserable morning of a beauteous day, Oh, the heavens know why the sky is gray, And the organ blares missives that betray: Nothing can unsay ~today is that final day. They watch him grooving as if in festive dance Feigning happiness, hiding dolorous glance, Decrying audacity of fate, eerily gone awry, As he accepts reality, uttering a silent sigh, Watching the crowd clap, as spirits amplify His reason for being, reluctant to bid goodbye. From street to street, he will endeavor to go Visiting every place familiar, despite angst of woe, For one last act of songs and music they know, Collect what he can, past goodwill will bestow; Turning the crank, to tunes of happy song, One that his crowd has cherished for long, Though something has so terribly gone wrong For someone has declared: you don’t belong, O, you don’t belong; no, you do not belong.

From street to street, he will endeavor to go Visiting every place familiar, despite angst of woe, For one last act of songs and music they know, Collect what he can, past goodwill will bestow;... yet he is shunned and told he does not belong.. sad life some have to face.. Deeply sad. To be told "you don't belong here." I can identify with this hurtful thought. Worthy potd as per usual Veej. Sorry late to reply but was temporarily unavailable

Dear Vijay, after reading this, there's so many emotions tangling around each other. This thought touched my heart so deeply- "For someone has declared: you don’t belong." So sad hearing these words and feeling this emotion within. Your thoughts caress gently around me. Congratulations my dear friend, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Vijay! A stupendous poem & well-deserved POTD, You made this nostalgic s Character come visually, virtually alive for me. I almost thought i could go ooen my door to see & listen. Really! Plus, you stirred heartstrings. Moved to mourn yet another ending of a lovely thing our busy age has brought to an end. Magnificent poem. I’m truly envious here of your talent & skill. Bravo! Oh my, this poem is so full of nostalgic emotions and reveries that bring to light those phases of transformations that accompany life with changing generations beyond time. How the lively spirit of the organ grinder gets faded, where he is no longer have wanted, but he still is the magician of tunes within his heart.. There's a very evocative touch in this poem, which I felt deeply within my soul. That's why, I it received the well deserved honour of POTD! Your wordplay and rhymes-BRILLIANT wow

Hearty Congratulations to the well-earned POTD, Vijay. Your poetry's sadness implied the organ grinder had been demoted. Perhaps his spirit needed a vacation from singing to the world. When the music stopped flowing from his instrument, the homeless man had nowhere to go. The brilliance of this exceptional contest entry cannot be overlooked. I wish you all the best with the contest.
