The Kola Nut's Sacred Bond
In Igbo land, where tradition holds sway,
The kola nut's significance, is celebrated each day,
A symbol of unity, of peace and of love,
Breaking the kola, sent from above.
With three lobes, like the Trinity's might,
The kola nut represents, the bond between day and night,
Between the living and the dead, it bridges the gap,
A sacred ritual, that seals the pact.
In gatherings and meetings, it's the first to be shared,
A sign of respect, of hospitality, and of love unfeared,
The kola nut's breaking, is a prayer, a wish, and a vow,
A sacred tradition, that's passed down, from generation to generation now.
The kola nut's spirit, is a guardian of the land,
A witness to the agreements, made hand in hand,
It stands for fairness, justice, and truth, so bright,
A shining example, of the Igbo people's light.
In the breaking of the kola, the people come together,
United in their diversity, like the kola's three lobes in one weather,
Their differences forgotten, as they share in the sacred rite,
The kola nut's bond, a symbol of their unity, shining so bright.
The kola nut's significance, goes beyond the ritual and the tradition,
It represents the values, that the Igbo people hold with devotion,
Respect, hospitality, love, and unity, are the values that they hold dear,
The kola nut's sacred bond, a reminder of these values, year after year.
