The knights in shining armor have all died
the damsels in distress are left...distressed
what once was chivalry and manly pride
by silence in the fight is now expressed

Where are the men who knew the right from wrong
who'd come to save a weaker one from pain
perhaps they have forgotten to be strong
their pleasure and their peace they want to gain

And so they leave the wounded in the field
Endeavoring to find what brings delight
forgotten are the ones they were to shield
They leave them there to suffer through the night

You were a knight, but that you are no more
those days are gone, they only live in lore

this is another great sonnet Eileen, well penned, well expressed, but knights still live, just they may be few, but knights are always a few afterall

The men with chivalry are swifting dying out..There are a few both men, women, youth of both sexes who treat people with respect though..We should also praise those that do..Thanks for stopping by..Sara

Now days men and women can take on the protector role. This does however seem like a sad way for the world to have become. I don't think it's entirely true.

Great sonnet, Eileen. Chivalry could definitely use a come-back ... but I think there are still knights that remain, they just have lighter touches. Bills to conquer (instead of dragons) and car-doors to open (as opposed to bursting through a castle gate) ...

'Tis so true that chivalry has all but nearly faded from modern society, at least in the public realm. Enjoyed your piece Eileen. J.

Nicely written, especially like thethe 3rd, (leaving the wounded to seek delight). A sad but common lament Eileen. (some of us are still around ha) cheers Craig
