The King, the Queen, and Jack
The King of Diamonds sat upon the throne
with Queen of Hearts there seated by his side;
he ruled with fists of iron and it was known
by all the lowly peasants far and wide.
The King a gruff and greedy sort of man;
to peasants, many taxes did apply.
To cross the King a foolish sort of plan,
but Queen of Hearts, she had a roving eye.
Across the court a jester gaily danced;
the Jack of Clubs to all the realm was known,
and to this knave the Queen’s eye did advance,
and with wry smile, Queen’s interest was shown.
She dropped her handkerchief upon the ground
where jester clearly took the royal cue;
and thus illicit tryst was newly crowned,
the Queen and Jack began their sinful coup.
Clandestine meetings in the jester’s room
upon his bed amongst the tangled sheets;
romancing all alone as day goes boom;
then lying low while waiting for repeat.
Now King he was a cagy clever guy;
suspecting something up between the pair,
behind his back attempting to defy,
and finally caught them lying in the bare.
And to the tower dungeon Queen was cast
as people of the realm were so appalled.
Our jester not as lucky by contrast;
the Jack of Clubs, by King’s command, de-balled.
And so to all the Maidens of this realm
if to the King of Diamonds you are wed;
then lest your happiness be overwhelmed
you best be ever faithful to his bed.
