The Journey
The Journey
It’s a phenomenon that we are
confident we know it all
at a time when we are actually
inexperienced and naive
like a child needing to learn not
to put their hand to a hot stove
we get burned in those early years
carrying the scars forward forever
Time passes and we accumulate
knowledge and sophistication
each day bringing another morsel
to chew on swallow and digest
we grow and apply bits and pieces
to our everyday dramas and dreams
pushing forward with only an
amorphous picture of who we are
As we age with the passage of time
those morsels become full meals
and turn into an examined life
lived consciously and with purpose
impacting those we love and
we become confident that we’ll
never know it all but a small fraction
sometimes convinced we know less each day
So we turn to the voice inside
for insight and the chance to know
who we’ve become along the way
gaze deeply into the mirrors held up
before our eyes with compassion
by folks we care about and love
sometimes even by kind strangers
and continue the journey to now…
