The Jealousy of God
Exodus 20: 5- For I the Lord your God am a jealous God
Have ever thought about the jealousy of God? I find it so captivating and thrilling. Human jealousy is based on insecurity and feelings of low self-esteem. I am a very jealous person. When I see my husband taking note of someone, I think to myself, “She’s prettier than I am, thinner than I am, smarter than I am, more engaging than I am”….and the list continues. God on the other hand….burns with jealousy because He is the BEST there is, and for Him it is unfathomable how we could misplace the love that is His due by offering it to someone…or something…that just doesn’t measure up to Him. He is the ultimate in perfection, grace, beauty, character, and every desirable trait. It warms my heart. While human jealousy almost always comes with a negative connotation attached to it, the jealousy of God is a positive spectacular thing to revel in. It just amazes me that the Master of the Universe would even care to win my affection and love. He whispers to me today….”I’m the best there ever was, is, or will ever be. I long to win your heart. I will never disappoint, never abandon, never neglect, never forsake, never hurt, never abuse, and never disown you. I’m your heavenly husband, and I am consumed with a heavenly jealousy when you carelessly give your love away to someone who is not worthy of you. Remember me…remember me!”
Isaiah 54: 5- For your Maker is your husband—the Lord Almighty is his name—the Holy One is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth. Amen!
