Notes About The Poem

The Irony Is

Honeybee
you say you are
just one of many -
but you help
my flowers grow
and you always
sweeten my day

Skylark
you say your song
is just ordinary -
but your melody
is my morning sonata
it makes my heart sing
a song of hope
while the sky
is still dark

Friend
you say you
are nobody special -
but the irony is:
that is exactly
what makes you
special

Hi John, just looking over some of your poems I haven't read yet - this one is so touching, because it sees the beauty in the ordinary - and THAT is special! (soupmail)

Thank you, Michelle. I posit that you've hit upon a good definition of poetry: seeing the beauty in the ordinary.

"you say you are nobody special" An echo, as I have just spoken those words- recently. I say this about myself, often. Your thoughts are beautiful. My heart lingers in what you are saying. Tender sigh. ~ Brandy

John, a meaningful poem, but I like the last stanza. I have the nightingales singing under my bedroom window and I love them in concert.
