The Irony

naively I assumed
everyone is driven
by a craving
for happiness

nothing could
be further
from the truth

were it even
remotely true
and things so simple
we would all know
peace on earth

Here's an interesting thing, I think, about your poem: You could exchange the words 'peace' and 'happiness,' and it would work just as well---thereby amplifying the validity and power of your message! :) gw

So true, Gershon. So many people are not interested in peace at all. Drama and mayhem is so much more fascinating for many.

This is the truest poem I have read today, and I have been reading poems for over two hours.
