The Invitation

I will be at the cafe across from the pier with a coffee and a buttery croissant. I have kept a place for you, a sunlit table and prepared a view with small boats moored in a mirrored calm, birds wading the shallows and clouds drifting across a tinted morning sky. Too deep in your silence, I know you will not come but I shall wait here on the other side of the page, words away, yet near

Thanks Lin....I have an odd sense of perspective....pleased that the poem conveyed a novel thought. This one has a few layers, the question centres on who is the speaker. Can be taken as an invitation to another person or a conversation with the self, ie the poet addressing part of the self. Not sure..as is often the case, poems write themselves sometimes.
